Cost of Living

Senior Discounts

Any individual, citizen or foreigner, who is fifty-five (55) years of age if female or sixty years (60) of age if male shall enjoy discounts, among which are the following:

  • A 50 percent discount on the price charged as general admission to recreational or entertainment activities such as theaters, movies, sports and several public shows.
  • A 25 percent discount on air fares.
  • A 50 percent discount whether staying in hotels from Monday through Thursday and 30 percent from Saturday through Sunday.
  • A 25 percent discount on the individual food consumption invoice (first and second class restaurants).
  • A 10 percent discount on the value of drugs acquired with a doctor’s prescription.
  • Exempt from one percent over rate applied to all local personal or business loans above five thousand US dollars (US$5,000).

Climate

Panama has a tropical climate. Temperatures vary from about 24C in the morning up to about 29C in the afternoon. Mountainous regions feel much fresher. Climatic regions differ more by the amount of rainfall they receive than by the temperature, varying between 1.3 meters up to 3 meters per year. The mix of generous rainfall, ample sunshine and blue skies makes Panama the tropical paradise you deserve.

Flora and Fauna

Panama's tropical environment supports an abundance of plants and flowers. A high proportion of panama is covered by dense forest. Doctors fees are much lower and malpractice insurance is significantly lower. Frivolous lawsuits are illegal in Panama and so do not increase your insurance premiums.

Several US-based health insurance companies have approved hospitals in Panama. Blue Cross Blue Shield, IHI, and World Wide Medical offer coverage in Panama. If would like to switch health plans then there are many available at competitive prices within Panama.
